What If I’m Ticklish?
You’re not alone — loads of people are.
(And yes, I’m ticklish too — so I really do get it.)
Ticklishness isn’t just about being sensitive. It’s actually a reflex response involving your nervous system, and it often shows up when the body feels uncertain or slightly on guard. So it makes sense that lying still while someone makes contact with certain areas — like the ribs, neck or feet — can sometimes trigger that reaction.
But the good news? It doesn’t have to get in the way of treatment.
I’ve worked with many highly ticklish clients — and it’s absolutely possible to have effective, comfortable sessions without setting off that reflex. In fact, most people are surprised by how manageable it becomes once we start.
My approach is grounded in the understanding that a lot of what causes ticklishness is anticipation. The nervous system responds differently when it feels safe and knows what to expect — which is why you can’t tickle yourself. By creating a calm, supportive environment and working at the right pace, it’s completely possible to work around it.
If needed, we can also use light clothing as a buffer — many techniques work just as well through fabric, and we’ll always find an approach that works for your body.
You’ll never be pushed past your comfort zone. You’re in control of pressure, pace, and positioning — and I’ll check in throughout to make sure you feel grounded and supported.
So please don’t let ticklishness stop you from getting the care your body needs.
This isn’t about pushing through discomfort — it’s about working with your body as it is.
